AquaEpi I – 2016 The 1st scientific conference in Aquatic Animal Epidemiology
The International Society of Aquatic Animal Epidemiology (ISAAE) is a sub-group of epidemiologists interested in aquaculture within the ISVEE – family. The idea about this conference developed during the last ISVEE conference in 2015 in Mexico. The aim for ISAAE is to establish a platform for dissemination, networking and creative contacts between researchers, industry and stakeholders, – all to the benefit of a profitable and sustainable global aquaculture industry.
The conference is generously supported by the FAO and the OIE Collaborating Centre of Epidemiology and Risk Assessment for Aquatic Animal Diseases. We believe this support is very important to help bring the usefulness of epidemiological methods, concepts and understanding from the researcher’s table to the decision makers all the way to caretakers of the animals in the pond and cage level to prevent and control diseases.
We do hope that this conference will be the first of many to come, arranged in different parts of the world to stimulate young and established people to engage in epidemiology and aquaculture.
The conference aims to bring together leading scientists, researchers and research students from all parts of the world to exchange and share their experiences and research results about all aspects of Aquatic Animal Epidemiology. It will also provide a platform for discussion about how to meet the research needs of aquaculture industry and facilitate interaction with stakeholders, industry and regulatory agencies for fruitful collaborations.
The conference will provide in-depth coverage of current and future epidemiological tools and their practical implications to aquaculture. Topic-focused sessions will cover but not limit to:
optimizing use of epidemiology data
design and evaluation of risk factor studies
spatial and temporal patterns in prevalence and risk mapping
design and evaluation of surveillance and control
